Early Risers
Early Risers is the sole, cult-leaning full-length from Soldiers Of Fortune, a loose but formidable collective formed by members of Chavez, Oneida, Interpol, Endless Boogie and more. Originally released in 2015, the album sits comfortably in the murky space between art-rock, psych, noise and fractured Americana — restless, confrontational and deliberately hard to pin down.
Pressed on 140g black vinyl, cut at 33 RPM and housed in a standard LP jacket printed on uncoated stock, this edition was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound (New York), giving the record a raw but weighty sonic presence that suits its unruly character.
The album also features vocal contributions from an unlikely cast of collaborators including Cass McCombs, Stephen Malkmus, and the mysteriously credited Clark “Yeremias” Bronson, adding further unpredictability to an already volatile mix.
To attentive ears, Early Risers sounds like confusion weaponised — tender, abrasive, funny, ugly and strangely compelling all at once. It doesn’t ask to be liked, and it certainly doesn’t explain itself. Crack it open, listen closely, and decide for yourself.
