Diamond Dogs
Celebrating five decades of one of Bowie’s most daring and dystopian statements, Diamond Dogs returns in this limited 50th Anniversary picture disc edition. Originally released in 1974, the album marked a bold transition in Bowie’s career — fusing glam rock swagger with a darker, theatrical vision inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 and the cut-up literary techniques of William S. Burroughs.
Featuring the era-defining single “Rebel Rebel,” which reached No. 5 in the UK, Diamond Dogs topped the UK Albums Chart and hit No. 5 in the US, further cementing Bowie’s global dominance. Tracks from the album have since been reinterpreted by artists including Beck, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Def Leppard and more — testament to its lasting cultural impact.
This 50th Anniversary edition is pressed from the same master as the acclaimed half-speed version. Cut on a customised late Neumann VMS80 lathe from 192kHz restored masters of the original tapes — with no additional processing — the audio was mastered by John Webber at AIR Studios to preserve the album’s rich, theatrical scope.
Presented as a striking 140g picture disc, the release also celebrates the album’s iconic cover artwork: Bowie as a half-man, half-dog hybrid, painted by Belgian artist Guy Peellaert from photographs by Terry O’Neill — one of rock’s most memorable and controversial sleeve designs.
A landmark in Bowie’s catalogue, Diamond Dogs remains a vivid, apocalyptic vision — now reissued in a stunning anniversary edition worthy of its legacy.
