The Mirror
The Mirror is the fourth solo album from Buck Meek, best known as a guitarist and songwriter in Big Thief, and his second release on 4AD. Rich with warmth, vulnerability and subtle experimentation, the record captures Meek’s deeply personal songwriting within a sonic landscape that blends organic folk instrumentation with gentle electronic textures.
Growing up in Wimberley, Texas, Meek’s musical roots stretch back to early blues gigs before eventually leading him to New York, where he met Adrianne Lenker and later formed Big Thief. On The Mirror, Meek reunites with Big Thief bandmate and producer James Krivchenia, whose inventive production brings a kinetic energy and atmospheric depth to the album’s intimate songs.
Recorded at Meek and Germaine Dunes’ rustic log cabin studio, Ringo Bingo, the sessions embraced a natural and open approach — with Meek often recording vocals on the front porch while the band performed inside. The album features contributions from longtime collaborators including Adrianne Lenker, Adam Brisbin and Ken Woodward, alongside guest musicians such as Alex Somers and harpist Mary Lattimore, with additional vocal harmonies from Germaine Dunes, Staci Foster and Jolie Holland.
Pressed on crystal clear vinyl, The Mirror presents a reflective and emotionally resonant collection that continues to expand Buck Meek’s distinctive voice in modern indie folk.
