Julia
Julia is the fifth studio album from Icelandic singer-songwriter Ăsgeir, and one of the most personal releases of his career. Marking a significant creative shift, Julia is the first album on which Ăsgeir has written all of his lyrics himself, after years of collaborating with translators such as John Grant and drawing on the poetry of his father, Einar Georg Einarsson.
The result is a deeply contemplative and emotionally direct body of work, steeped in nostalgia and self-reflection. Across its ten tracks, Julia sees Ăsgeir meditating on past regrets, future hopes and the quiet moments in between, guided by the elusive presence of the albumâs title character. There is a new sense of vulnerability throughout â songs that feel not just exquisitely crafted, but genuinely lived in.
Musically, Ăsgeir remains true to the elements that have defined his acclaim: intricate folk-pop melodies, understated yet lush production, and his unmistakable, wistful falsetto. Many of the songs were first written on guitar, with an emphasis on simplicity, melody and clarity. The production, co-developed with longtime collaborator Guðm. âKiddiâ Kristinn JĂłnsson, is organic and restrained, allowing Ăsgeirâs voice â especially his voice as a writer â to take centre stage.
This Limited Edition Transparent Green 140g Vinyl LP presents Julia in a beautifully understated physical format that mirrors the albumâs intimacy. A moving and cathartic release, Julia stands as one of Ăsgeirâs most honest and emotionally resonant works to date.
âSweeping and emotiveâ â NME
âWidescreen and dramaticâ â Brooklyn Vegan
âA mixture of reminiscence, wonder, heartache and clarityâ â Atwood
